Award for Cardiff 131

We are pleased to announce that The Heritage Railway Association has bestowed an Award to the Museum in respect of Cardiff 131 in the Self Propelled Vehicle category in the Carriage and Wagon Competition

Grimsby and Immingham No.14 returns

Grimsby and Immingham No.14 returned back to Crich after its trip to Immingham Dock to Celebrate the Centenary.

The G & I 14 was transported by low loader on Friday 20th July to Immingham Docks. Together with the Association of British Ports an event was held on the 22nd July to celebrate 100 years of the docks. It returned to its home at Crich yesterday.

The loan of G & I 14 is one of many made by the Museum to other organisations to support with various events and celebrations.

Derbyshire Heritage Award

We are delighted to announce that Wonderful Woods Week came Highly Commended in the Inspiration Category at the Derbyshire Heritage Awards which were held at the Museum on Friday 20th July.


Wonderful Woods Week was held over the third week of the Summer Holidays last year by the Learning Department and saw various Woodland themed activities such as Fairy Den Making, Hunt for the Wish Tree, Story Telling as well as Woodland Art and Crafts.

After last years success, Wonderful Woods Week returns this year on Monday 13th - Friday 17th August.

Launch of LUT 159

London United Tramways 159 was launched on Saturday 7th July. Here are some photographs from the launch. Following an incident during the launch, 159 is currently unavailable for passenger service.

LUT 159

LUT 159 suffered a minor failure towards the end of today's launch. Unfortunately, as a result of this it is unlikely that the car will be operating in passenger service for the London 60 event. Although - weather permitting - the car should be on display subject to some early morning tinkering. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

60 Years since the Last London Tram

Today marks 60 years to the day that the last tram ran in London.

Join us to commemorate this anniversary on  Saturday 7th July for the launch of LUT 159 and Sunday 8th July for our London 60 event.

We are also holding a book sale in the Exhibition Hall on Sunday 8th July where surplus books will be on sale from the library. See if you can complete your collection!

Paisley 68/ Glasgow 1068

As part of the celebration to mark 50 Years since Glasgow tramways closed, the Museum is pleased to acknowledge sponsorship from Scottish Tramway and Transport Society to enable us to show the car as Glasgow 1068.

London 159 Launch
