Blackpool 125 Tours

The tours organised by the TMS and FTS took place over last weekend.  Despite the problems we experienced getting double deckers through the wooded parts of Derbyshire the weekend went very well.  Unfortunately 167 failed on the final journey on Saturday with a bearing fault. Further information will be posted when available.

Here are some photos from the weekend.

869 Celebration

On Saturday, members of the Liverpool University Public Transport Society (LUPTS) gathered at Crich Tramway Village to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1960 Glasgow tram tour organised by the society and which subsequently led to the acquisition and preservation of Liverpool tramcar 869, now resident at Crich. Members of the current Merseyside Transport Preservation Society (MTPS) were also present for the gathering as the MPTS grew out of LUPTS.

869 was one of a batch of surplus vehicles purchased by Glasgow Corporation in the mid-1950s as Liverpool began to close its tramway system.

The two 1954 pictures, by the late Bob Parr and Henry Priestley, show 869 in service in Liverpool, whilst Saturday's images include the group photo in front of 869 of all those who attended the celebration, both LUPTS and MPTS members. The second photo from saturday is an onboard picture of ten participants from that February 1960 LUPTS trip.
